Cocktail of the Week: The Greyhound

For all the men out there, you need to know that there are more options in alcohol out there than just a beer. But sometimes the biggest problem is knowing what to order/make that still constitutes a ‘manly’ cocktail. I’m not saying you need to be ordering a Sex on The Beach or a Screwdriver to be different.

Each week MoBro.co.nz will be bringing you the cocktail of the week, so you can try and change up your drinking habits to encompass something a bit different for your palate.

So what is the criteria we are looking at for a more man friendly cocktail you ask? Well, the two central components are booze and balance, and a name that isn’t embarrassing would help to. Basically an ideal cocktail needs to taste like booze. Not sugar, not soda or fruit juice. ALCOHOL.

This isn’t saying that a cocktail shouldn’t have fruit, but you need to have a certain level of balance. Its all good to have a sweet element amongst the drink, but you need to match that with a bitter or dry element to balance it all back out. A complex taste is often more pleasing to the palate, while keeping the ingredients simple.

So make sure you check out our Cocktails of the Week, and better yet, try them out for yourselves, and let us know what you think! Also, if you want to make your own suggestions for the cocktail of the week, comment below.

Cocktail of the Week: The Greyhound

INGREDIENTS

2 oz vodka

5 oz grapefruit juice

INSTRUCTIONS

Pour vodka and grapefruit juice on top of the ice in a short glass. Stir well.

If you’re looking for a manly version of the screwdriver, this is it. Grapefruit juice is strong, for sure, but it won’t mask the booze as much as OJ does.

Try it out, and let us know your thoughts.
