Wrapping up their three date tour of New Zealand, after slaying Christchurch and Wellington earlier in the week, it was Auckland’s turn to get a piece of the punk legends, Misfits.
Being the influence for a multitude of bands across the punk and metal genres, the Misfits never disappoint in a live environment, and tonight was no difference, with the band cranking through a solid set of 40 tracks, blasting from one song to another.
The show kicked off with their classic 1997 ‘Static Age’ album, and moved throughout tracks from their entire career, which now spans 5 decades, the band, with Jerry Only (Bass/Lead Vocals), Chupacabra (Drums) and Only’s son Jerry Caiafa II (Guitar/Backing Vocals) moved so fast between tracks that it was almost difficult to decipher where one song ended and the next began.
Galatos was shaking with intensity from start to finish, with a sea of fans wearing more Fiend t-shirts in one place than anywhere else, amping to hear one legendary track after another. Song highlights included classic Misfits staples like ‘Last Caress’, ‘Halloween’, ‘Where Eagles Dare’, ‘The Fiend Club’, ‘Helena’ and ‘Die, Die My Darling’ and even their latest release ‘Vampire Girl’.
Overall a solid showing, with a classic set of iconic horror punk tracks. Its great to see the band continuing to spread the good word of Punk Rock across the globe, and you can tell that Jerry Only is still loving what he does!
