This week’s MoBro of the week has what I believe to be one of the most iconic Moustaches in the history of cartoons, Ned Flanders. Voiced by Harry Shearer (another featured MoBro of the Week as Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap), Ned Flanders first appeared on The Simpsons in the premier episode Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire back in on December 17th 1989.

One of the first characters to be introduced outside of the immediate Simpsons family, Flanders is easily one of the most recognisable and liked characters in the show. The god fearing neighbour and nemesis/best friend of Homer (nemesis in Homer’s mind only) has been the staple element of all that is good and pure in the town of Springfield.

Father to Rod & Todd (easily two of the most annoying characters on the show), Ned has been through a number of ups and downs throughout the 26 seasons of The Simpsons. Loosing his wife Maude to a T-Shirt cannon (fact: Maude was one of the first characters to be killed off in the series), hooking up with Edna Krabappel, loosing his house and running a eventually successful business in the Leftorium, and even gaining a Vegas wife.

Flanders is very honest and sincere in carrying out the Christian ideals of charity, kindness, and compassion. He is frequently shown doing volunteer work, and is honest and upright, even going so far as to spend an entire day tracking down a Leftorium customer in order to give him the extra change that he had forgotten to hand over.

Ned and his trusty moustache have always been a staple element in the history of The Simpsons with all his Iddily’s and Diddily’s and hopefully this continues for the remaining episodes to come!
